Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing treatments improve wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, and signs of aging, while stimulating collagen production and tightening the skin.  Laser wrinkle reduction treatments include Erbium, CO2 and Fractional CO2, known as the gold standard for wrinkle reduction.

What Is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing works by first removing the outer layers of dead skin.  Any sun damage, pre-cancerous growths, age spots, or other surface imperfections are reduced and smoothed out. Second, as the laser moves across the skin’s surface, wrinkles and sagging skin are pulled up and tightened. Finally, the laser tightens as well as stimulates the matrix of the skin, and a new collagen layer forms within the skin increasing its thickness and elasticity. After resurfacing, newly treated skin cells viewed under a microscope appear younger and rejuvenated. When compared to traditional plastic surgery, laser resurfacing gives patients a more natural appearance.

We offer Erbium, Co2, and Fractional Co2 laser resurfacing treatments. Co2 Laser treatments are considered to be the gold standard in wrinkle removal and Erbium treatments are commonly performed with facelifts. Laser skin resurfacing treatments can take more than 10 years off your appearance in just one treatment.

Facelifts and Erbium Laser Resurfacing Treatments at Illume

Traditional surgical face lifts reverse the aging process by lifting excess skin. Since the surface of the skin is left untouched, sun damage, age spots, rough skin, and large pores are left unaffected. The face is surgically altered to look younger, but on a cellular level is left unchanged. Erbium laser resurfacing addresses these skin concerns and removes superficial and moderately deep skin lines and wrinkles on the face hands, neck, and chest.  Facelifts and Erbium Laser Resurfacing are often performed in conjunction with one another and are offered at our Waukesha and Milwaukee locations.

More About Erbium Laser Skin Resurfacing

Erbium resurfacing removes superficial and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on the face hands, neck, and chest. One of the benefits of erbium laser resurfacing is minimal burning of surrounding tissue. This laser causes minimal side effects, such as swelling, bruising, and redness, so your recovery time should be rapid – 1-2 weeks in most cases.

If you have a darker skin tone, erbium laser resurfacing may work better for you. Your doctor will determine which laser is best for you after they evaluate your medical history, current physical condition, and desired results.

More About co2 Laser Skin Resurfacing

CO2 resurfacing treats skin conditions such as wrinkles, scars, enlarged oil glands on the nose (rhinophyma), and other conditions. The newest version of the CO2 laser resurfacing uses very short pulsed light energy (ultrapulsed) or continuous light beams that are delivered in a scanning pattern to very precisely remove thin layers of skin with minimal heat damage to the surrounding structures. Recovery time from the procedure is up to two weeks for makeup application.

Traditional CO2 resurfacing is still considered to be the gold standard of all laser treatments used to treat wrinkles, photo-aging and sagging skin. Laser resurfacing can take more than 10 years off your appearance in just one treatment.
