TMJ dysfunction is an incredibly common, yet incredibly painful issue for many people. There are over three million cases in the US every year, and unfortunately, many people don’t realize that Botox® for TMJ is a simple treatment option.
When Botox® is injected into the masseter muscles of the jaw, it relaxes and prevents further clenching – this helps relieve the pain that TMJ can occassionally cause. Like and other muscle in the body, the masseter muscles can “bulk up” after repeated use from clenching and grinding. With Botox® injections, these muscles aren’t able to get their “workout” in and finally begin to rest. This resting phase allows them time to heal and repair, providing sweet relief from symptoms of TMJ.

Botox® is the #1 prescribed branded chronic migraine treatment. It helps to prevent headache and chronic migraine attacks before they begin. On average, Botox can prevent 8-9 headache days a month.
Botox® for migraines typically requires a short office visit. Full effect can be felt 3-7 days after treatment. Treatment every 3 months is recommended.

How long does Botox® last?
Full dose duration of effect is 3-4 months, on average. First time users may notice that the effects don’t last as long, but in some cases, increasing the number of treatments can help the effects last longer as the muscles become retrained. Everyone is unique, and their experiences with Botox® will vary.
Is Botox® FDA approved?
Yes, Botox® injection treatments were approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for cosmetic use to treat lines between the brows, crow’s feet lines, and forehead lines. It has been approved for the treatment of several medical conditions since 1989. Botox® is a trade name for botulinum toxin A. Botox® is related to botulism.
What Age Should You Start Botox® ?
Botox® is a great option at any age, however, it is approved for adults 18 years and older. If you want to use Botox® as a preventative to lines and wrinkles, we recommend starting Botox® in your 20s or 30s. In your 40s and on, Botox® can be used to treat lines and wrinkles and help make you look younger.
Side Effects
Like most medspa procedures and treatments, it is best to understand the risks and side effects. Side effects from Botox® are very minor, and some of the most common are mild pain, swelling, and bruising. The best way to limit any side effects is to follow and directions you receive before and after your Botox® treatment.

About Consultations at Illume
A personal consultation is the first step for anyone considering a surgical procedure, medspa treatment, or weight loss program. During this meeting, one of our board-certified plastic surgeons or licensed providers will recommend the best treatment options and answer any questions you may have.
There is no fee for medspa consultations, including Botox, filler, and skincare. There is also no fee for any weight loss consultations.
We require a $100 deposit for all out-of-pocket surgical consultations with all our Board Certified Plastic Surgeons. This $100 is fully refundable if the appointment is cancelled or rescheduled with at least a 24-hour notice. Your $100 deposit can be applied towards the cost of your surgical procedure provided that surgery is scheduled within 6 months from the time of the consultation. Surgery beyond 6 months from the time of the initial consultation or for procedures not discussed in the original consultation would require another consultation and a $100 deposit.
All our plastic surgeons offer in-person consultations. Virtual consultations are available upon request.

Surgical Consultations
A personal consultation with one of our Board Certified Plastic Surgeons is the first step for anyone considering a surgical procedure. During this meeting, one of our surgeons will assess your physical and emotional health and discuss your specific goals for surgery. Surgical consultations are $100 and that fee is applicable to the cost of your surgery if you book within 6 months of your consultation. You can book your surgical direclty online with our online booking service.
