Dermal Fillers 101: Longevity, Pricing, and Results

Dermal fillers are one of our favorite ways to refresh your features without surgery. A small amount of filler can soften tired lines, bring back contour in the cheeks, or add a little fullness to the lips. The result is often a more rested, balanced version of you, with very little downtime.

Two questions come up in almost every consult: How long will my filler last? and How much will it cost? This guide walks you through what we tell our own patients at Illume Cosmetic Surgery & MedSpa so you can plan with realistic expectations.

What Dermal Fillers Can Do

At Illume, we use FDA-Approved hyaluronic acid–based dermal fillers to enhance and restore volume in a very controlled way. Depending on your goals, fillers can help:

  • Lift and contour the cheeks and midface
  • Add shape and softness to the lips
  • Refine the chin and jawline for better profile balance
  • Gently smooth etched lines and folds

Hyaluronic acid is a substance your body already makes. In filler form, it attracts and holds water, creating soft, flexible volume that moves with your expressions instead of fighting them.

If you would like to see more about how we use fillers in the cheeks and midface, you can read our page on dermal facial filler. For lips specifically, we have a dedicated page for lip filler.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

Filler longevity is different for everyone, but there are some helpful ranges based on where we place it and which product we choose.

Lips

Lip filler is very popular, especially for soft, natural-looking volume. Because we use our lips all day to talk, eat, and smile, filler in this area tends to fade a bit faster.

Most of our patients notice that lip filler lasts about six to twelve months. Some come in a little sooner for a light refresh, others are comfortable waiting closer to a year.

Cheeks and Midface

Cheek fillers are designed to lift and support. When we restore volume in the midface, it can make the whole face look less tired and more lifted.

Cheek fillers usually last around one to two years. These areas move less than the lips, and the filler we choose there is often a bit more structural, so results tend to hold longer.

Chin and Jawline

Chin and jawline fillers help refine the profile and create a smoother transition between the lower face and neck. In many patients, results in these areas last roughly a year or longer before a touch-up.

Your exact timeline will depend on how your body metabolizes the filler and how much movement there is in the treated area.

What Affects How Long Your Filler Lasts?

Even with general ranges, no two faces are exactly the same. A few key factors influence how long your filler will last:

  • Treatment area
Lips and areas around the mouth break filler down more quickly than cheeks or chin.
  • Product choice
Some formulas are made to be soft and flexible for high-movement areas. Others are designed for deeper support and tend to last longer.
  • Amount used
A very subtle first treatment may soften a little sooner than a fuller correction, especially if we are starting with significant volume loss.
  • Your metabolism and lifestyle
Each person’s body processes filler at a different pace. High activity levels, smoking, and large shifts in weight can all play a role.
  • Maintenance schedule
Regular touch-ups help keep results looking even, rather than letting everything fade and starting from scratch.

When you come in, your injector will talk through what is typical for your age, skin, and treatment area so you know what to expect before you decide.

How Much Do Dermal Fillers Cost at Illume?

We know pricing matters when you are planning your treatments. Our current filler pricing is:

  • Dermal facial filler (full syringe): typically $549–$649
  • Lip filler:
    • Full syringe: starting at $549
    • Half syringe: starting at $349

The exact recommendation depends on your goals and the areas we treat. Some patients start with a single syringe, placed thoughtfully in one area. Others may benefit from a little in more than one area for overall balance.

There is no medspa consultation fee for filler at Illume. You can meet with one of our RN Injectors, talk about options, and review pricing before you commit.

What to Expect During and After a Dermal Filler Treatment

A typical filler appointment takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

Here is what most visits look like:

  • We start with photos and a conversation about what you would like to change or enhance.
  • Your injector examines your features, makes recommendations, and creates a plan with you.
  • We apply numbing cream if needed. Many fillers also contain a small amount of lidocaine for comfort.
  • Filler is placed in small, precise amounts. You will see a difference right away.

After treatment, it is very common to have mild swelling, tenderness, or small bruises at the injection sites. Lips, in particular, can look fuller for the first few days before they settle into their final shape. Most swelling improves significantly in the first week. Final results usually settle within about two weeks.

We will give you detailed aftercare instructions, including when you can wear makeup, how to reduce swelling, and what to avoid (such as strenuous exercise or pressure on the area) right after your visit.

Setting Expectations and Planning Ahead

Our goal with filler is to enhance your natural features, not change who you are. Many of our patients prefer a lighter-handed approach, especially at the first visit. If you decide you would like a bit more, we can always build gradually over time.

Because we use hyaluronic acid fillers, we also have the ability to adjust or dissolve them in the rare case that something needs to be refined. Knowing that there is flexibility helps many first-time patients feel more at ease.

If you have a big event coming up, we recommend scheduling filler at least two weeks in advance so everything has time to settle.
