Facial Feminization
Facial feminization surgery in Milwaukee can include a number of procedures designed to reshape facial features and create a more feminine appearance. The specific procedures recommended depend on your anatomy, goals, and surgical plan.
Upper Third – Forehead & Brow
Forehead & Brow Bone Contouring
Many people assigned male at birth have a more prominent brow ridge. Dr. Bourn can soften this area either by contouring the bone directly or, when the frontal sinus sits close to the surface, by setting back the front wall of the sinus. The appropriate technique depends on your anatomy and is assessed with imaging before surgery.
Hairline Advancement
A higher or M-shaped hairline can create a more masculine appearance. Surgical hairline advancement moves the hairline forward and rounds out the temples. Middle Third – Nose
Feminizing Rhinoplasty

Neck
Tracheal Shave (Thyroid Cartilage Reduction)
Also called Adam’s apple reduction, this procedure reduces the visible prominence at the front of the neck through a small incision that is usually placed in a natural skin crease.
Facial Masculinization
Facial masculinization can be surgical or non-surgical. Facial implants add definition to the chin or jaw, fat grafting builds structure using your own tissue, and injectables can sharpen the jawline or chin without surgery. Many patients start with injectables to preview a result before committing to implants.

Insurance, Cost & Financing
The cost of gender-affirming facial surgery depends on how many procedures are included, operating time, anesthesia and facility fees. What is facial feminization surgery (FFS)?
Facial feminization surgery is a group of procedures that soften features commonly read as masculine, such as a prominent brow ridge, a high hairline, a larger nose or a visible Adam’s apple. At Illume, Dr. Lynn Bourn creates an individual FFS plan based on your anatomy and goals.
Which facial feminization procedures does Illume offer?
Illume offers forehead and brow bone contouring (including frontal sinus setback), hairline advancement, rhinoplasty, tracheal shave (thyroid cartilage reduction) and lip lift, along with fat grafting and injectables. Facelift and neck lift are also available for patients who want to address facial aging.
Do you offer facial masculinization?
Yes. Facial masculinization options at Illume include facial implants, fat grafting and injectables. Many patients start with injectables to preview a stronger jaw or chin before deciding on implants.
Can I combine several facial procedures in one surgery?
Often, yes. Many patients combine procedures such as brow contouring and hairline advancement in a single operation. Dr. Bourn will recommend whether to combine or stage procedures based on safety, total operating time and your recovery needs.
How old do I need to be for gender-affirming facial surgery?
Dr. Bourn sees patients for gender-affirming surgery consultations at age 18 and performs surgery at age 19 or older.

Dr. Bourn is a Louisiana native who spent years at the bedside as a registered nurse prior to her medical and surgical training. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University, earned her medical doctorate from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, and went on to complete a six-year integrated Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery residency at Saint Louis University. Her passion for harmonizing Plastic Surgery principles, from both reconstructive and cosmetic procedures, culminated with a Gender Affirming Surgery fellowship from Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Bourn’s goal for each patient is to cultivate confidence building as the mind and body are intertwined.
